Missions with a twist

Redefining the “missions team” concept

In the past joining a “team” would mean that you serve for a specified number of years. No matter what it was that the “team” did you participated. What if you could do a “mission” that you really felt a passion for but then not have to do anything else? Unless you want to. That’s the new concept. If you have a passion for something and you bring it to the pastor or the office, and if it fits in the mission statement of the church, and if you are willing and able to lead it…. we will help you in your ministry. We are part of the community and enjoy partnering with community members and groups. Here is a list of the most recent service opportunities:

  • Salvation Army coat drive - we collected coats, brought them to the Salvation Army and then provided volunteers to help with the event. We also collect food items which we deliver to them.

  • Emmaus - We collect every week non-food items to give to Emmaus. These are items that they can use at the shelter or at the pantry. Many items clients cannot purchase on their own with the resources they are provided.

  • Blessing of the pets - this was a fun event we held this fall and it was open to the entire community. We had give aways and prizes for both pets and their people.

  • Backpack blessing - children, teachers, office workers, anyone could bring their backpack in to the church and at the 10:50 service we blessed them.

  • Colleting school supplies for teachers - We collect school supplies for teachers. Many times during the year teachers are buying the supplies that the students need and giving them out during class. We collected enough this year that we had to make two delivery dates!

  • Snacks for cancer patients - each year in November we collect snacks and beverages for patients who are undergoing cancer treatments. We not only meet our 300 needed number we exceeded it. In addition snacks that could not go to the center were donated to Emmaus.

  • Feed the band - band kids can’t leave between practice and the game so we brought a movable feast to them.

  • Feed the teachers - During parent teacher conference times many teachers at the Jr High just don’t have enough time to run and grab something to eat before the parents arrive. So we brought the food to them. Another date is planned for January when they come back from break before the kids are back in school.

Do you know of something or someone in the community that needs support? If you feel passionate about it come talk to us and lets see how we can be the hands and feet of Christ in the world around us together.

  • Each year in the fall we collect donations of food items for patients receiving treatment. They ask each group to collect 300 individual snacks. Each snack must have a clearly printed expiration date on it. They must not be past their expiration date. They should be easy for the patient to open and readily available for consumption. Nothing that needs to be cooked or processed in anyway. No full size bags, beverages, bars, or boxes.

Patients especially appreciate things that help them to fight nausea. Small size cans of ginger ale, sprite, 7UP and water. Protein’s like nuts or bars help to keep blood sugar levels balanced. Sometimes even salty snacks can help. Items that do not have sugar are also appreciated for those who need to carefully monitor other ongoing health issues.

  • "Shawls ... made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles..."

  • We collect items all year round to help support the Emmaus Mission. Typically we ask for non-food items such as paper goods, feminine hygiene products, hygiene products, diapers (adult & child), dental care items and more.

The Emmaus Mission Center is a Christian ministry, dedicated to assisting the poor to break out of poverty by providing them with job skill training, education, and access to food, clothing, and shelter.

We are a 501(c)3, non-profit, multi-denominational social service agency established to provide support for marginalized families and individuals.
